Island of Yesterday

This rare pre-war footage is shot by Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in the 1920’s. It shows the establishment of the Goodyear rubber plantations, the cutting of enormous trees by large teams of men, cultural activities and rubber tapping. The title cards are racist about local people and customs but nevertheless interesting to see the attitudes of companies and colonials of the 1920’s.
